Are we secure online…..

November 28, 2008

Hey guys today we all resort to online transactions some or the other way. Everybody is hooked on to internet these days irrespective of the field or area. But do we ever ask ourselves the question as to is it safe??

E-Commerce is growing at a tremendous rate. In the year 2007-08 the total ecommerce volume was Rs.9200 Cr which includes railways and flights ticketing, e-tailing,etc. But still it is a very small part of the total retail business in India.
Why??
Because people still feel insecure transacting online. We have to provide our personal and confidential information like credit card details, name, address, etc to the online portals.

This question becomes more vital when we relate it to internet banking. At times we are required to provide some of our personal information online but how can we trust that its is secure and safe as well. There have been cases when we have heard about so many frauds taking place online. But do we really take the necessary steps that we are required to in order to ensure safety and security to our data or personal information being transferred online.

Is there any way to make online transactions safe, secure and private to the core ??

Security of online transactions

December 8, 2008

There is tremendous rise in the online banking options as well as shopping sites that encourage the use of credit or debit cards has rose the concern of internet security much more. Exchanging sensitive information without the appropriate encryption technology or security measures can make a computer user or identity particularly vulnerable. Providing personal data on the internet does open up space for a number of risks and taking preventative measures becomes a necessary part for online safety and security.

The personal information that we provide online is easy for the hackers to monitor or record or even for the third parties without even the user knowing about it. All these become a major threat online which is very risky. Passwords and information needs to be protected as much as possible. This would require frequent changing of passwords and not sharing the passwords with anybody else. Online transactions rely heavily on the user name and the passwords and thus one needs to give major importance to this.

Secure websites and pages will feature two important conditions that indicate they are using encryption technology and a Secure Socket Layer. This is indicated by “https” (letter “s” after the http portion of the URL), and means that the server is a secure one. All these points have to be kept in mind while trying to be online secure and safe.

Secure growth of internet banking and e-commerce

December 4, 2008

The growth of business transactions through the Internet, smartly worded as e-commerce/e-business, has grown very fast in the last few years. Cost considerations and convenience afforded by the facility have fuelled the growth. At the same time, the phenomenal growth has accentuated the problems of security.

Communication, data, and information security are all part of a system where the environment is increasingly becoming difficult to handle. Threats to information security and frauds related to electronic transactions have increased at an alarming rate resulting in reduced confidence in transacting on-line.

Is there any way out that can let us help in transacting online without any fear??

Was looking for an answer to it when I came to know about “digital signatures”.
